The Real Man Laws??

I was on Facebook this morning and I saw the weirdest Facebook status:

"...1st rule of being a real man u don't use an umbrella. U put a hoodie or a hat on and thug it out..."

Okay, so I know that the Man Laws exist and I never try to infiltrate them but...no umbrella?? This law makes no sense to me. If you're in your suit or just dressed nice, whether it be in a shirt and tie or some jeans and sneakers, why in the world would you mess it all up by walking down the block with no umbrella. What part of the Man Law is that? Why does this make you more of a "Real Man?" I'm not saying you have to rock out with a Dora the Explorer umbrella, but would it really kill you to put up an umbrella if you're walking to your destination that is a few blocks from the train station?

Here's another "rule" courtesy of my FB friend:

"...and if its cold in the winter time u are not allowed to wear gloves, put them in your pockets..."

I mean, what in the world?! I really need to know why wearing gloves in the freezing cold makes you less of a man or a "fake man" as opposed to being a "real man."

Okay seriously, I know that these may sound funny but as I think about it, I don't know that many men who actually use an umbrella or men who wear open toe sandals (that is, btw, rule #3 and I happen to agree with it - I just don't think it makes you less of a man if you wear them). I wonder if they don't do it "just because" or if it's because they think they will be less of a man if they do wear gloves, sandals or use an umbrella. As a woman, I thought that the "Real Man Laws" were something that were a bit deeper than that and that they included things of a sexual nature more than a material nature (outside of the open toe sandals thing).

Do most men feel this way? And who can we credit for the start of these rules? Entertainers, rappers, or everyday men? Is there an age when some of "the rules" no longer apply? Seriously, I'd like to know.

Let's discuss. Of, feel free to add on to the "Real Man Laws" as you respond.

No disrespect to your friend, but the 1st 2 "Real Man Laws" he wrote sound crazy. Umm common sense, if it's cold put some dang gloves on, if it's snowing and you're rocking your new suit, umbrella it baby (btw, you are crazy Dora the Explorer, lol). True there are some things men should and shouldn't wear (PINK, I'm sorry I know people are feeling it but when I saw a brother with pink socks to match his pink tie, I was pink through)...I agree with you, I thought the Real Man Laws were deeper (somebody need to have a refresher course for A WHOLE LOT OF MEN). I heard a man tell me "Men aren't suppose to carry chapstick, salvia works for the lips" I kindly replies "And that's why you hard lip having behind doesn't have a girlfriend"

XOXO

Man laws are sort of just cultural norms that men follow amongst themselves but really very few women understand men the way SOME men understand women...many women have GAy male friends that help them with advice and fashion, etc.

There is no female equivalent for men..men are not hanging with gay women and gettig advice and as Chris rock said and all me agree any guy that has a female friend knows that is a woman he wants to have sex with...eventually.

Peace

You're missing the point. A real man isn't dressed nice to begin with - because he doesn't care what anyone else thinks of him. He's secure and doesn't need - or want - your approval.

When I say "mess it all up," I mean why would a guy want to be soaking wet? Who wants to be DRENCHED in water just b/c "real man law" supposedly states that real men don't carry umbrellas?

"A real man isn't dressed nice to begin with - because he doesn't care what anyone else thinks of him", ummm last time I check you can still dress nice (and dressing nice doesn't only mean a suit & tie) and be a real man. And people in general should be secure with self and shouldn't look for approval from anyone. Like Ms B said, does a man want to be drenced b/c of the "real man law". If that be the case, stay home on cloudy days.
